General
We're a specialist tax and accounting firm helping NZ businesses with everything from compliance to complex structuring. We combine deep tax expertise with practical business advice.
We're a fully remote practice registered in Auckland (2/1 Redmond Street, Ponsonby). Our team works with NZ businesses nationwide using Xero, video calls, and cloud-based tools. We also bring trans-Tasman expertise, with NZ qualifications and hands-on experience across both jurisdictions.
Not at all. We work with clients across NZ and Australia using Xero, video calls, and cloud-based tools. Many of our clients prefer the flexibility of a remote-first model.
We're a Xero-based practice and also use HubDoc for document management, Xero Payroll for NZ payroll, and a range of cloud-based tools to keep everything efficient and accessible.
Pricing & Plans
We offer three monthly plans: Foundation from $349+GST/month, Growth from $990+GST/month, and Strategic from $1,990+GST/month. Final pricing depends on entity count, transaction volume, and scope. We also offer a one-off 90-Day Business Advisory program from $3,000+GST, and consulting at $350+GST per hour.
Foundation covers compliance essentials: tax returns, GST, financial statements, and IRD correspondence. Growth adds bookkeeping, payroll, year-end tax planning, and an annual structuring review. Strategic is our virtual CFO tier — it adds monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasting, quarterly strategic advisory sessions, KPI tracking, and direct access to Jono.
Absolutely. You can upgrade or downgrade your plan as your business needs change. No penalties.
No. Our plans are month-to-month. We believe in earning your business, not locking you in.
Yes. Our consulting service covers complex tax issues, structuring, trans-Tasman planning, and more. Engagements are quoted per project or charged at $350+GST per hour.
Tax & Compliance
For most NZ businesses with a 31 March balance date, income tax returns are due 7 July (or 31 March the following year if you have a tax agent). Your tax agent extension dates may vary.
A tax agent is registered with the IRD and can file returns and correspond with the IRD on your behalf. They also get extended filing deadlines for their clients. We are a registered tax agent.
If your business turnover exceeds $60,000 in a 12-month period, you must register for and file GST returns. Even below this threshold, voluntary registration can be beneficial.
The IRD charges late filing penalties and use-of-money interest on overdue tax. Penalties can add up quickly. It's always better to file on time or arrange an extension. We help you stay on top of every deadline.
Yes. We handle IRD correspondence, audit responses, voluntary disclosures, and tax disputes. This falls under our consulting service for complex tax matters.
Yes. We provide specialist trust compliance services covering IR6 returns, financial statements to IRD minimum standard, settlor and beneficiary disclosures, trustee minutes, and full Trusts Act 2019 governance. Plans start from $149+GST/month. The enhanced reporting requirements introduced under the Trusts Act 2019 mean most trusts need professional help to stay compliant.
Absolutely. We offer specialist property tax services covering chattel valuations, interest deductibility tracking, bright-line monitoring, rental income and expense schedules, and entity structuring (LTC vs company vs trust). Annual compliance starts from $990+GST for a single property. We also handle short-stay accommodation (Airbnb, Bookabach) including mixed-use asset rules and GST.
Short-stay accommodation is one of the most complex areas of NZ property tax. The mixed-use asset (MUA) rules determine how your expenses are apportioned across income-earning days, private days, and vacant days. If your total taxable supplies exceed $60,000, you must register for GST, which creates further complexity around apportionment and disposal. An accountant who understands these rules can save you significantly more than their fee.
A chattel valuation separately values the depreciable items in your rental property: carpets, drapes, heat pumps, appliances, blinds, and light fittings. While building depreciation is 0% (since April 2011), chattels are still depreciable. A professional chattel valuation costs $400–500 but typically unlocks $3,000–8,000+ in year-one deductions. If you own a rental property and haven't had a chattel valuation done, you're almost certainly leaving money on the table.
Cross-Border / Trans-Tasman
Yes. Our team is NZ-qualified with hands-on experience across both jurisdictions. We help businesses operating across the Tasman navigate the complexities of dual-country tax obligations.
Absolutely. This is one of our core specialities. We understand the tax residency rules, treaty obligations, and practical considerations of running an NZ business from Australia.
There are many, from tax residency determinations to transfer pricing, GST obligations, and double tax agreement provisions. The specifics depend on your structure and situation. We recommend a consulting engagement to map it out properly.
Getting Started
It's straightforward. We handle the transition for you. We'll request your records from your current accountant, set up your Xero access, and get you onboarded smoothly.
Typically, we need access to your Xero file (or we'll set one up), your most recent tax returns, and a brief conversation about your business and goals. As a registered tax agent, we're also required to complete anti-money laundering (AML) verification as part of onboarding. This is a quick, one-time process. We'll guide you through it.
We make switching seamless. It starts with a free consultation to understand your business. From there, we contact your old accountant, get access to your Xero, and handle the transition. We then run a Business Health Check — a full review of your accounts, systems, and processes — so you know exactly where you stand. Then you're set up with ongoing support.
